Twice a week, a group of dedicated fifth grade students at Wilder Elementary School spends recess tutoring their peers in math.  The group, who call themselves “Brainstorm,” formed in January when educators noticed some pupils were in need of extra help.  Fifth grade math teachers Reuben Chapman and Haley Dorne were hoping to enrich students in a way that was fun and cooperative.  Brainstormers were selected to be tutors based on leadership capabilities, following school rules and expectations, and their exemplary performance in math.  All semester they have been working with other children to sharpen their math skills by making tutorial videos for models learned in the Bridges curriculum, teaming up to play math games like Work Places or Kahoot, and helping with homework.  Their teachers are incredibly proud of their hard work and dedication this semester.  “Brainstorm showed great leadership qualities by willingly giving up their recess to make a difference and help others,” said Dorne.
