As part of Robert Frost Elementary’s annual Black History Month celebration, the school traditionally shares with students daily facts about the contributions of Black Americans via the school’s morning announcements. This year, however, School Counselor Alisha Porter and Instructional Coach Sheri Chaffin sought to create a real-world connection and enrich students’ learning by inviting an author to talk about African American culture and the writing process.

Earlier this month, students and staff were excited to share in a visit by Christine Azeez, author of “What Do Monsters Eat?” Azeez spent the entire day meeting with each grade level, reading her book to students, discussing challenges and triumphs of being an author, and answering various questions from students. She also offered students numerous tips and tricks on improving their writing skills.

As a special treat, Azeez also gave everyone a sneak peek of her upcoming book, “The Bear, Mrs. A., & The Honeybun.”
