Westerville City Schools has received a $169,000 grant from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency for components of 13 propane-powered school buses.

Ohio EPA is offering one-time funding to help municipalities, schools and businesses convert diesel-powered heavy-duty fleet vehicles to run on cleaner burning alternative fuels.  Fifteen grants have been awarded so far with $2.2 million still available.

The 15 grants given to date are providing more than $2.8 million to replace 141 vehicles that run on compressed natural gas, liquefied natural gas or liquid petroleum gas.  This includes 24 propane school buses, two CNG school buses, 41 transit buses and 74 CNG refuse trucks.  These cleaner fuels and technologies help improve air quality by reducing diesel emissions.
