On Thursday, May 18, the staff at Westerville Central High School and many students all wore identical black and silver t-shirts. This was not an embarrassing coincidence, but rather an opportunity to razz departing Principal Todd Spinner with 10 of his catch phrases that have become synonymous with the school. Spinner is leaving at the end of this school year, after 10 years as principal at Central, to assume the same role at the new Olentangy Berlin High School. The shirts were sold by the sophomore and junior classes as a fundraiser.
A few days later, during Westerville Central’s Night of Reflection on May 23, the good-natured principal brought the house down by crooning I’m in a Warhawk State of Mind (sung to the tune of New York State of Mind). He will be missed.
