During the 2015-2016 school year, Walnut Springs Middle School was proud to introduce its very first Soccer Club.  The initial idea for the club was presented to the school administrative staff by a small group of students eager for opportunities to play soccer with their peers.  Word spread quickly throughout the school about the new extracurricular activity, and soon there were between 50 and 60 pupils ready to join the team.  The goal was to include as many students as possible, especially those who were unable to participate in school sports due to the cost or lack of after-school transportation.

For these reasons, there was no cost to join the WSMS Soccer Club and students got the opportunity to train, practice and play soccer outside on sunny days.  During the cold winter months, they worked together to gather research on various professional soccer teams and players.  As a final activity, Soccer Club members walked to the Highlands Park soccer fields to face their opponents in each grade level in a tournament-style match.  The club’s popularity has grown exponentially and is expected to be even more popular in the coming school year.
