Tony Bernard, Vice President of Marketing, Outreach and Advocacy, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Ohio Buckeye Chapter, accepts a check from math teachers Jessica Martin and Teri Mandell.

Two Westerville North Algebra classes are doing more than attempting to raise their grades:  these Algebra students, or “Math Scholars (MS),” are raising money for the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society.  Because both of the teachers from these classes have family members affected by MS, they were personally motivated to try to do something for the cause.  As an incentive to strive for higher grades, the Algebra teachers – Teri Mandell and Jessica Martin – developed a friendly competition between the two classes.  The teachers decided to contribute money into a “pot” in acknowledgment of solid grades.  After approximately three months, the combined classes raised $367.   The MS Society generously provided pizza for the winning class, and Westerville North Principal Kurt Yancey graciously provided pizza for the other class (in recognition of the students’ efforts).  Both teachers are proud of what their pupils accomplished.
