Children’s author/illustrator David Catrow spent the day at Hawthorne Elementary School on March 10, autographing some of his books including, I Like Myself and I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More! He has more than 70 published works in print.  His Scholastic book series, Max Spaniel, has sold over a million copies and he has several New York Times best sellers and two New York Times Best Illustrated Books.  He continues to develop projects with Simon and Schuster, Penguin Putnam, Harcourt/Houghton Mifflin, and Harper-Collins.

In addition to his publishing, Catrow has also worked extensively in film and television, spending over a year creating the visual development for films such as Horton Hears a Who and Despicable Me.  In addition, he has done development work adapting the animated Stuart Little for television.  His syndicated editorial cartoons have run in more than 1,000 newspapers across Canada and the US.

Catrow told the Hawthorne students that his favorite subject in school was math.  Why?  Because Mr. Hirsch’s class was where Catrow did some of his best drawings!  Catrow’s zany illustrations have illuminated over 30 books for kids, and his editorial cartoons are syndicated in more than 900 newspapers in the U.S. and Canada.  This amusing illustrator and his wife, Deborah, live in Ohio and have two children.  Hawthorne teacher Katie Ensell coordinated his visit.
