The Rotary Club of Westerville, which sponsors a Student of the Month program, recognized recipients at a luncheon at Villa Milano held on Thursday, March 12.  March students are: Seriah Wells, Westerville Central High School; Yussuf Bashir, Westerville North High School; Miranda Cottman, Westerville South High School; and Samantha Vincent, St. Francis DeSales High School.

The purpose of the program is twofold:  to recognize outstanding students who have distinguished themselves by serving their school and to expose them to the Rotary Club and its ideal of “Service Above Self.”  Students selected join Rotarians for lunch every week for a month, and have the opportunity to interact with members.

Seriah Wells, a senior at Westerville Central, enjoys studying Math and Psychology.  She holds a 4.2 grade point average (GPA).  She is a varsity cheerleader for football and basketball, a member of the National Honor Society, an office assistant, a Cheer Youth clinic leader, and a concession stand worker.  She teaches dance to young children and is a senior performing arts company member at Straub Dance Center.  She is also a Hollister sales associate.  This four-year scholar-athlete has been repeatedly recognized for academic excellence and volunteers throughout the community.  She was named Distinguished Young Woman of Central Delaware County in 2015.  Wells will audition for the Radio City Rockettes in New York City this summer.

Science is Yussuf Bashir’s favorite subject.  This Westerville North High School senior has been on the Merit Roll three times and has earned a Perfect Attendance award.  He helps clean his mosque.  Bashir hopes to study Mechanical Engineering at The Ohio State University and has already been accepted to Columbus State.

Senior Samantha Vincent holds a 4.1 GPA at DeSales, where she enjoys studying Science and English.  She plays softball, is a member of the National Honor Society and the Math Club, and participates in Lemelson-MIT InvenTeams.   She volunteers for the Westerville Special Olympics and is a softball trainer.  This scholar athlete is a member of the National Honor Society who earned a Jim Near Scholarship and a SFD Traditions Scholarship.  Vincent plans to play Division 3 softball for Emery University, where she will study Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology with the aspiration of becoming a surgeon.
