Geologist Lori Emler spoke with fifth grade students at Fouse Elementary School.

Thanks to Amy Emler, a secretary at Fouse Elementary School, fifth grade students recently enjoyed a visit from a geologist.  Lori Emler, Amy’s daughter, is employed at the Southern California Coastal Water Research Project as a research technician in the Biochemistry Department.  Her work involves conducting studies on creeks, rivers, estuaries, storm water and the ocean.  On a recent trip back to Westerville, she volunteered her time to talk with pupils about her career.

Emler presented a slideshow and spoke about what geologists do out in the field.  She shared beautiful pictures of ancient animal bones, estuaries, and rock formations.  She also educated the pupils about the San Andreas Fault in California and the fault lines that run through Ohio.  She even brought samples they could touch and study.  Teachers expressed appreciation to Amy and Lori Emler for arranging the special learning opportunity.
