Rotary Club of Westerville Names May Students of the Month

The Rotary Club of Westerville, which sponsors a Student of the Month program, recognized recipients at a luncheon at Villa Milano held on Thursday, May 1.  May students are:  Kelly Piper, Westerville Central High School; Moises Vasquez, Westerville North High School; Caitlin Cahoon, Westerville South High School; and Audrey Marzec, St. Francis DeSales High School.

The purpose of the program is twofold:  to recognize outstanding students who have distinguished themselves by serving their school and to expose them to the Rotary Club and its ideal of “Service Above Self.”  Students selected join Rotarians for lunch every week for a month, and have the opportunity to interact with members. 

Kelly Piper, a senior at Westerville Central, holds a 4.62 grade point average.  Math is her favorite subject of study.  At school she plays volleyball and runs track.  She is also a member of the National Honor Society and serves on the Principal’s Advisory Committee.  Piper is a Buckeye Girls State delegate, a Honda Math Medal recipient, an AP Scholar, a Scholar Athlete, and was on the Honor Roll during all four years of her high school career.  She earned a Maximus Scholarship to study at The Ohio State University.

Moises Vasquez is a twelfth grade pupil at Westerville North, where Science, History and Math are his favorite subjects.  He is active in a number of high school sports, is a peer helper with multiple handicapped students, and serves on the Superintendent’s Advisory Committee.  Vasquez received the prestigious Martin Luther King, Jr. Fouse Award.  He plans to study exercise science and pre-physical therapy at Capital University.

Caitlin Cahoon, a senior at Westerville South, enjoys the study of English and Psychology.  She holds a 4.33 grade point average.  She is involved in theatre, choir, the PRIDE Club, the Yearbook Club, and National Honor Society.  She volunteers in the multiple disabilities classroom, and at the Faith Mission shelter, the Village at Westerville, and Manor Care.  Cahoon is a Buckeye Girls State delegate, a Cat with Class, a member of the National Honor Society, an International Honor Thespian, and a four-year academic letter recipient.  She will attend Wittenberg University and major in Special Education.

Audrey Marzec is a senior at St. Francis DeSales, who holds a grade point average of 4.167.  AP Calculus and Physics are her favorite subjects.  She played on the freshman volleyball team, was treasurer of the St. Vincent DePaul Club, and is a member of the Business Club and Environmental Club.  She also played on the Westerville Softball league.  She volunteers at the Franklin County Dog Shelter, is a member of the Westerville Area Volunteer Experience (WAVE), served meals at WARM’s Summer Lunch Program, and volunteered at Vacation Bible School.  Marzec was on the Honor Roll all four years, is a member of the National Honor Society, and a member of the French National Honor Society.  She also attended Findlay Pharmacy Camp.  She plans to study Zoology or Biology at Otterbein College.
