Students at all three Westerville high schools got the opportunity during the month of May to view Chasing Ice, an Academy Award-nominated documentary film that captures visual evidence of climate change through the use of time-lapse photography.  The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, has been shown in 172 countries, and has won nearly 40 awards from festivals around the world.  It was also screened at the United Nations, before Congress, and at the White House.

The Chasing Ice Ohio Tour is an initiative to inspire climate education.  Through partnership with National Geographic, Ohio State’s Byrd Polar Research Center, Jane Goodall’s Roots and Shoots Program, as well as numerous local organizations, the tour is offering free screenings of the highly acclaimed film to high schools, universities and youth programs throughout the state of Ohio.  The launch of the Chasing Ice Youth Ambassador Program includes interactive screenings, educational discussions and an innovative call to action led by the Chasing Ice Team, which believes youth have a powerful voice within their communities and around the world.

Each Chasing Ice event included an interactive screening of the film, distribution of teacher and student resources, a call to action, and information about the group’s Youth Ambassador Program.
