Westerville Central’s Arts Alive Inspires Creativity

Students created elaborate chalk drawings on the sidewalk surrounding Westerville Central High School. 

                    

 

 

 

The seventh annual Arts Alive festival took place at Westerville Central High School on April 22. This year's all-day event, which celebrates student creativity, featured:

  • 131 four-foot chalk murals, including some 3D optical illusion pieces;
  • A “dirty dancing” interactive art area featuring five big canvases painted by dancing feet;
  • A tie dye station;
  • Performances by the orchestra, jazz band and a metal trash can band;
  • Choir solos on a coffeehouse stage;
  • A multicultural fair representing 10 cultures from around the globe, including a belly dancer, drumming, food, music and an Argentinean pope;
  • Clay space for making clay pendants and potter’s wheel action;
  • Participation by three Alcott Elementary art classes collaborating with high school students; and
  • Westerville Central alumni, who discussed majoring in art at the Columbus College of Art & Design, Otterbein University and The Ohio State University.
