The Central Ohio 8th Grade Battle of the Books competition, hosted by Heritage Middle School, took place at Westerville North High School on Wednesday, March 20.  Many teams from throughout the area competed, but Westerville’s four middle schools walked away with top honors.  The Genoa team placed first in the competition; Blendon was second; Heritage third; and Walnut Springs fourth.

For the contest, students were given a preset list of 18 books to read throughout the school year. All competition questions began with, “In which book…” and the answer was always a title of one of the books that were read.  Teams buzzed in with correct answers about titles in a “Jeopardy-style” format.  The purpose of the competition was to celebrate readers and the joy of reading.  All participants enjoyed a pizza lunch following the event.
