The Rotary Club of Westerville, which sponsors a Student of the Month program, recognized recipients at a luncheon at Villa Milano held on March 7.  March students are:  Dustin Edens, Westerville Central High School; Jayne Sterricker, Westerville North High School; Riley Buer, Westerville South High School; and Nathan Yoder, St. Francis DeSales High School.

The purpose of the program is twofold:  to recognize outstanding students who have distinguished themselves by serving their school and to expose them to the Rotary Club and its ideal of “Service Above Self.”  Students selected join Rotarians for lunch every week for a month, and have the opportunity to interact with members.

Dustin Edens, a junior at Westerville Central, holds a 3.2 grade point average (GPA) and enjoys studying Science and History.  He participates in cross country and track and field, and serves on the Principal’s Advisory Committee.  He also volunteers at St. Paul Church and as a WASA soccer referee.  Edens earned numerous athletic awards.  He was Most Valuable Runner; was named to the All-Conference team, and has run varsity cross country and track every year during high school.  He plans to join the Ohio Army National Guard during his senior year, and wants to major in Zoology at college.

Jayne Sterricker, a senior at Westerville North, lists her favorite subjects as Math and Language Arts.  She has earned a 3.5 GPA.  At school, she is involved with the I Can Program, is a member of the Warrior Way Leadership Team, and helped organize the Butterfly Project.  Sterricker is active in the Leap of Faith Dance Company, and she competes in jazz, lyrical and contemporary dance.  She attends the Heritage Christian Church where she is involved in several small groups and Bible studies.  She plans to major in Business or Education at Cedarville University.

Riley Buer is a senior at Westerville South.  She holds a 4.6 GPA and her favorite classes are Math and Anatomy.  She participates in a number of activities at school, including Young Conservatives, Junior Mentoring, Student Council, National Honor Society, swim team and orchestra.  She works as a lifeguard at the Westerville Recreation and Highlands pools, and is active in her church.  Buer was named Most Valuable Player for three years and was recognized at the Ohio High School Athletic Association State Tournament for the past four years.  She plans to attend college and study Speech Pathology.

Nathan Yoder, a senior at St. Francis DeSales, holds a 3.571 GPA.  He is an Eagle Scout.  Math and Science are his favorite subjects, and his participates in band, Model United Nations, Peer Ministry, and swim team.  He volunteers at St. Vincent DePaul and is an alter server.  He also volunteers at the Columbus Zoo.  Yoder is still deciding where to attend college, but has narrowed the field down to four – Miami University, the University of Dayton, Wittenberg University or Ohio University.
