Rotary Club Names February Students of the Month

The Rotary Club of Westerville, which sponsors a Student of the Month program, recognized recipients at a luncheon at Villa Milano held on February 14.  February students are:  Melissa Kramer, Westerville Central High School; Spencer Fisher, Westerville North High School; Mubarik Mohamed, Westerville South High School; and Colin Madigan, St. Francis DeSales High School.

The purpose of the program is twofold:  to recognize outstanding students who have distinguished themselves by serving their school and to expose them to the Rotary Club and its ideal of “Service Above Self.”  Students selected join Rotarians for lunch every week for a month, and have the opportunity to interact with members. 

Marissa Kramer, a senior at Westerville Central, earned a grade point average of 4.2.  Anatomy, Physiology and Psychology are her favorite subjects of study, and she is also involved at school in choir, swimming, Renaissance and mentoring.  She has served as a swim coach for Special Olympics.  Kramer, who was a Student of the Month, holds an academic letter.  She is a scholar-athlete, All-Ohio and an All-American in swimming.  She plans to further her education as a pre-med student. 

Spencer Fisher is a senior at Westerville North High School.  He holds a 3.4 grade point average and enjoys studying History and Physical Education.  He is a wrestler and a member of Explorer Post 29 for Law Enforcement, where he held the titles of Sergeant and Lieutenant.  He is also in the Plain Township Fire Explorers.  Fisher received the Law Enforcement Training Award, the Community Service Award, the Crime Prevention Award and the Presidential Service Award.  He plans to major in Sociology at The Ohio State University.

Mubarik Mohamed’s favorite subjects of study at Westerville South High School are Math and Science.  He is a senior who holds a 4.67 grade point average.  He is a member of the National Honor Society and is in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.  Mohamed has served as a tutor at local community centers and is an Adult Center assistant.  He is also a National Achievement Finalist.  He plans to study Biochemistry at The Ohio State University.

Colin Madigan, a senior at St. Francis DeSales, earned a 3.9 grade point average.  English and U.S. History are his favorite subjects.  He has been on the Honor Roll for all quarters of high school and was lauded for Perfect Conduct.  School interests and activities include baseball, Student Ambassadors, History Club, Math Club, Student Newspaper, and the National Honor Society.  He is an active member of the St. Paul Parish in Westerville.  Madigan attended Buckeye Boys State.  He plans to major in Journalism or Education at Ohio University or Miami University.
