Juniors Invited to Apply for 2013 Martin W. Essex School for the Gifted

Current high school juniors have the opportunity to apply to be a part of the 2013 Martin W. The school will run from June 16 - 22 and will be residential once again this year. The week will kick off with a Welcome Dinner for parents and students on Sunday, June 16, and will conclude with a graduation and closing ceremony on Saturday, June 22.  Any student who participates in the 2013 Essex program at Otterbein will be given a $1,000 scholarship, should they choose to attend Otterbein University.

Cost for the week is $650 and the students must be identified as gifted as defined by the State of Ohio in one or more of the following areas: superior cognitive, specific academic area of math, reading, science, or social studies, creative thinking, or visual and performing arts.

Applications are due February 15, 2013. Scholarship assistance is available.

Essex participants will be provided with the 2013 Otterbein Freshman common book, The Little Princess, to read prior to the week of Essex for workshops related to the book. This summer's participants will be invited back to Otterbein during the 2013-14 school year to participate in more workshops and seminars with the author of the book. Some other workshops this summer include Visual Communication and Design, Printmaking and Drawing, Trapping and Studying Turtles, Environmental Chemistry Studies, Voice and Movement in Acting, and time at the newly built Equine Center.
