The cross country teams at Westerville Central High School are hosting the fourth annual Westerville GameDay 5K on Saturday, November 17. The event will take place at Westerville Central, which is located at 7118 Mt. Royal Ave., and in the surrounding neighborhood. The Kid’s Run starts at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K Run/Walk begins at 8:45 a.m. The goal is to promote running and exercise while creating a fun, family-oriented event with a football, “game day” feel. Long-sleeve t-shirts, age group awards, cash prizes for overall winners, door prizes, and other giveaways will be offered. Race proceeds will benefit Westerville Central’s boys and girls cross country programs. In addition, one dollar of every entry fee will be donated to the Mid-Ohio Food Bank of Columbus.

This event is quickly becoming one of the larger races in Central Ohio. The inaugural race in 2008 had fewer than 100 runners while the second year and beyond has seen more than 500 paid participants. The Columbus Running Company provides race management and reporting. In 2010 they began using chip timing for faster and more accurate results.
