The Bette Marschall Memorial Education Fund of The Columbus Foundation has announced the recipients of 12 grant awards totaling $3,344 to Westerville City Schools personnel for applications submitted this fall. Recipients are:
- Jennifer Walpole, Westerville North High School, $351 for subscriptions to Upfront, a New York Times news magazine;
- Amanda McQuown, Wilder Elementary, $300 to purchase books for the Book Busters Club;
- Leslie Alicea, Cherrington Elementary, $78 to purchase a special product called Sensational Sands, for autistic children;
- Lindsey Clouston, McVay Elementary, $128 to purchase books to promote environmental awareness;
- Catherine Monteiro and Amanda Anderson, Annehurst Elementary, $300 to purchase bilingual books for ESL students;
- Christine Eshenbaugh, Westerville North, South and Central high schools, $300 to support the Healthy Lunch Bunch program for the special needs population;
- Debbie Pellington, Genoa and Heritage middle schools; $257 to purchase more chess clocks to allow increased participation in noon chess games;
- Matt Esh, Westerville South High School, $50 to purchase small medals and ribbons to honor academic performance;
- Jeffrey Bracken, Westerville North High School, $480 to purchase seed-oil expellers to harvest oil from sunflower seeds grown at school;
- Noelle Spreistersbach, Westerville South High School, $300 to help organize and stock a school location with products for at-risk students;
- Katie Wirthlin, McVay Elementary, $500 to purchase supplies for special education students attending art therapy classes; and
- Jessica Martin and Sheila Ebbrecht, Heritage Middle School and McVay Elementary, $300 to provide tools to help support students having behavioral/emotional needs.
