Board Selects Ohio School Boards Association to Conduct Search for Next Superintendent, Seeks Community Input via Survey
11/2/2012
The Westerville City School District Board of Education took its first step in the
superintendent search
process by selecting the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) to conduct the search, necessitated by the retirement of Dr. Dan Good.
Dr. Richard Caster, a Senior School Board Services Consultant with OSBA, will be guiding the Board through the search and selection process. Dr. Caster has over 35 years of experience in public education, including administrative roles in five school districts. He joined OSBA in 1998, and, after spending some time with the Dublin City Schools and the National Association of School Resource Officers, returned for a second stint at OSBA in 2011.
“Dr. Caster has helped numerous school districts across the state through this process and we value his expertise,” said Board President Kevin Hoffman. “OSBA assisted us with our superintendent search in 2007 and treasurer search in 2011. Their work resulted in the hiring of two high-quality professionals and we are confident in their abilities to achieve the same outcome for us this time.”
The search process will include profile development, dissemination of marketing materials through print and electronic media, aggressive recruitment, a professional pre-screening, reference checking and interviews. OSBA will be paid $6,900 plus incidental expenses for its services.
OSBA has served public education for over 57 years and has assisted in approximately 800 superintendent and treasurer searches.
Hoffman announced that the Board is seeking the community’s input and involvement in the search process through the completion of a brief survey.
“Community input is important to us, so we’re asking our various constituencies to complete a brief survey that will help guide us during the search process,” Hoffman said. “The common themes that emerge will be crafted into a profile for our next school leader, and this profile then will be used during the candidate screening and interview phase as we search for the perfect fit for our district.”
Copies of the survey are available at every district school and office. The survey also can be
completed online
. Responses will be accepted through the end of the day on November 30, 2012.
