Bette Marschall Education Fund Accepting Grant Applications
9/7/2012
Applications for monetary grants from The Bette Marschall Education Fund of The Columbus Foundation are being accepted for worthy 2012-2013 school-year projects not otherwise supported within the school budget. The grants are available to teachers, students, administrators, and non-teaching staff within the Westerville City School District. The submission deadline is October 12, 2012. It is expected that approximately $2,550 will be available for this application period. Applicants may request awards of up to $500, except those for subsidizing tuition, which will be limited to $250. A selection committee will meet in mid-October to decide on the awarding of grants. Grantees will be required to submit a brief written report at project completion to summarize project activities.

This fall marks the 10th anniversary of the Bette Marschall Memorial Education Fund. To date it has supported a total of 145 projects in the Westerville City School District, dispersing $44,858 over 20 application periods. The average award per project is about $310, although a number of applicants have been granted the maximum amount of $500. It was named in memory of Bette Marschall, a long-time and well respected educator in Westerville Schools. Her husband, Charles W. Marschall, said, “This fund could not endure if not for the staff members who dream up creative ideas, submit applications, and carry out projects that lie outside of normal school funding.” He thanked donors, individuals who have helped in the selection process, Westerville City Schools staff who “make sure the whole operation runs smoothly,” and the Columbus Foundation, which holds and dispenses money for specific projects.
