English 2 (formerly American Literature)

This course is required for all grade 10 students.

Its focus is the historical development and philosophies of American literature from the colonial period to the present.  A variety of genres will be read, including fiction, nonfiction, poetry and drama. Students will develop reading comprehension, analysis, research, and composition skills as well as development of vocabulary, grammar, listening, reading, and visual literacy. Students will write in a variety of modes to include argumentative research and literary analysis.

The course counts as 1.00 English credit toward graduation.
