What’s the best way to spend your “spare” day during a Leap Year? By bowling, of course! Westerville City School District staff, civic leaders, community members, and business representatives on February 29 spent a few hours at the Columbus Square Bowling Palace in support of three local causes during the 20th Annual Westerville Community Bowl-A-Thon.

Hosted by the Westerville Education Foundation, the Westerville Scholarship Foundation, and the Westerville Symphony, proceeds from the annual fundraiser allow these non-profits to provide grants to educators, award student scholarships, and offer musical programs to students. Historically, each organization receives approximately $10,000 from the event to support these initiatives.

More than 400 bowlers, volunteers and guests attended the event, many of whom represented district schools and departments. The coveted “Golden Pin” was awarded to Mike Farrar of Central Ohio Primary Care for a three-pin Executive Challenge victory, achieved in the final frame. Participants received event t-shirts, thanks to the support of numerous sponsors, including Westerville Amateur Soccer Association, Westerville Firefighters IAFF Local 3480, BMI Credit Union, Ron Lykins CPA's, Robert Frost PTA, Henry Painting, The Garland Company, Papa Johns, and JC Manny Co.

Bowl-A-Thon organizers thanked these generous sponsors and the two flights of teams who spent their Saturday raising money for the betterment of the Westerville community.
