Preschool students at the Early Learning Center were excited to meet the Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Preschool students at the Westerville City Schools Early Learning Center were thrilled when, on January 19, the Very Hungry Caterpillar stopped by for a visit.  The Westerville Special Needs PTA supports the preschool program and encourages children to read by bringing some of their favorite literary characters to life.  Each youngster received a book to promote literacy in celebration of the special day.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a children’s picture book designed, illustrated and written by Eric Carle.  It features a caterpillar who eats its way through a wide variety of foodstuffs before pupating and emerging as a butterfly.  The winner of many children’s literature awards and a major graphic design award, it has sold 30 million copies worldwide and has been described as “one of the greatest childhood classics of all time.”
