Happy Back-to-School!

Our school day begins at 9:05 a.m. each day and concludes at 3:30 p.m.   Please note the following procedures to ensure that our students have a safe, orderly learning experience at Wilder.  If you have questions about arrival/dismissal or other topics, do not hesitate to contact the principal’s office at 614-797-7330.  You may also reach the principal by email: hazlettv@wcsoh.org.

ARRIVAL—Students will report to the following areas each morning when they come to school.  Students may enter the building at their grade level entrance and report to their classrooms beginning at 8:50 a.m. Parents may walk their children to the designated grade level doors.  Parents who need to enter the building must come in the front door and sign in at the office.  In order to visit the classrooms, parents must have made prior arrangements at least 24 hours in advance with both the principal and the teacher.  Wilder welcomes and encourages parent involvement.  However, in order to maintain routine, maximize instruction, and maintain student confidentiality, we ask that parents not visit classrooms without prior arrangements with the principal.

Breakfast is served from 8:45 a.m. to 9:05 a.m.  Students who will be eating breakfast at school enter the building through the front door and remain in the Commons Area

Kindergarten students report to the right side of the building and directly enter their classrooms.

First Grade students report to the left side of the building and enter at the first grade side door on the big playground.

Second Grade students report to the right side of the building and enter at the back, side door.

Third Grade students report to the right side of the building and enter at the front, side door.

Fourth and Fifth Grade students enter at the front doors of the building.

PARENT DROP OFF and PICK UP -- In order to maintain safety for our students, please follow the procedures below when bringing your child to/from school.

Students are to be dropped off at the front crosswalk between 8:45 and 9:05 a.m. Staff will be on duty to help the children out of their cars during that 20-minute period.  Cars are to remain in the outside lane as buses use the inside lane for students to safely exit buses on to the sidewalks.

Dismissal is at 3:30 p.m.  It will take a few minutes for students to arrive at the crosswalk.  Parents will be asked to circle back around if their children are not at the crosswalk for pick up.  Staff will be on duty from 3:30 to 3:45 p.m. to supervise car riders.  At 3:45 p.m. students who remain will be brought into the office to call home.  Please do not idle/park in the traffic lanes as that backs up traffic and the buses cannot get through.

Day Care Vans – If your child is transported by a day care van, please be sure that your day care is aware of the drop off and pick up times.  The School Office closes at 4:00 p.m.

CHANGE OF DISMISSAL ROUTINE – If you need to temporarily revise the dismissal routine for your child, please send a written note to school notifying us of the details of the change.  If it involves a change in buses, transportation has a request form on the website that must be completed and submitted for approval.  Last minute changes are difficult for the office staff due to all the tasks that occur at the end of the day.  However, if you have an emergency, please contact the school office prior to 3:15 p.m. with the details, and we will contact the classroom teacher.

EARLY DISMISSAL – If you need to pick up your child early for an appointment, please send a note to school that day and upon your arrival to the office, we will call your child to the office.

TARDIES -- If you arrive to school after the tardy bell (9:05 a.m.), you must sign in your child at the office.  For an excused tardy, please submit written documentation at that time.

PARENT LUNCH WITH STUDENTS – If you would like to have lunch with your child at school, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher in advance to  make arrangements.  Check in at the office and a staff member will escort you to the guest table in the Commons Area.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS – If you are interested in volunteering in your child’s classroom, please contact the teacher for details.  If you are interested in volunteering in the school community, please contact the principal, or the Wilder PTA for details.  A district volunteer form needs completed prior to volunteering in the classroom or school building.

The Wilder School Staff looks forward to supporting our families in order to provide a successful year of learning and growing for our students.

Please look for additional information coming home with the children on the first day of school.  You may also reference the “Westerville Student Handbook for Elementary School” on the district home page.
