From the classrooms to cafeteria walls, messages of kindness and being kind have been sprinkled all across the district as students and staff extended their World Kindness Day celebrations throughout the week and month.
World Kindness Day, which is observed across the world on Nov. 13, promotes the importance of being kind to each other, to yourself, and to the world. The purpose of the day is to help everyone understand that compassion for others is what binds everyone together.
Here are some schools’ efforts:
Emerson Elementary
The school celebrated World Kindness Day by hosting a giant staff BINGO game. Teachers also got their students involved by helping make kindness notes and pictures. The school’s Student Equity Team designed and distributed Gratitude Grams, telling students how grateful they are to have them at Emerson this year.
Minerva France Elementary
Student ambassadors and leaders read books and played with younger students at recess with younger students. Students are also making a school-wide kindness quilt on our cafeteria stage.
Robert Frost Elementary
During the week, students dressed in special spirit wear related to kindness. Classes participated in a secret classroom kindness mission where students have been given a daily task to complete either within their own classroom, for a secret classroom or a secret non-classroom teacher/staff member. The mission culminated with a class reveal on Friday. The school’s student ambassadors collected food items by grade level to donate to WARM.
