Robert Frost Elementary School Hopes to Raise $20,000 to Purchase iPads

Students at Robert Frost Elementary have been treated to “teasers” all week about fun things to come at their school.  They have been sent home with odd surprises in their backpacks including barely-recognizable photocopies of their principal’s face and poems about their cool school.  Cryptic messages and posters have appeared throughout the building and this afternoon, Principal Sarah Berka’s “secret” video diary was shown at a school-wide assembly and greeted with uproarious laughter.  The diary was also “leaked” on YouTube and can be viewed by all at www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_gmRFzA3b0.   It appears that Ms. Berka has been keeping extended hours at Robert Frost and using her time alone there to play tricks on the staff!

During the assembly the pupils also learned about a lofty new fundraiser being organized by the Robert Frost PTA.  Students and their families are being asked to raise $10,000 towards the purchase of iPads for the school.  If they are successful, the PTA will match that amount, bringing the grand total to potentially more than $20,000.  Each teacher in the building has created a unique “experience” that will be raffled off.  Some of the activities include:

  • Touring Otterbein University with a teacher, meeting faculty, and checking out college life;
  • Meeting at Panera for lunch and hot chocolate and walking to Half Price Books where the teacher will purchase the student a book of their choice;
  • Taking an ice skating lesson from a professional hockey player, arranged by a teacher;
  • Having a teacher deliver cookies and milk to a student’s house and reading them a bedtime story; and
  • Dining in the “mysterious” Teacher’s Lounge on food that is made by teachers (aka the Robert Frost Pancake House).

If the students reach or surpass their $10,000 goal, Principal Berka will spend one night sleeping under the stars on the roof of the school, while the PTA hosts an outside movie night for the children.
