The mission at Mark Twain Elementary is “To accommodate student learning styles through a variety of instructional approaches, collaborative leadership, utilization of individual strengths, and active participation of our school’s community members.” The school community accomplishes this through modeling expectations, involving stakeholders in the decision-making process, promoting student achievement, and celebrating successes. In order to meet the diverse needs of the school’s student population, special needs of all students are identified, a structured hiring protocol has been implemented to hire and retain the most qualified personnel, and creative programming and opportunities in which all of the school’s students and their families can participate have been created. Students are provided a multitude of before, during, and after-school activities to become self-confident, well-rounded risk-takers. Teachers consistently provide a rigorous and relevant academic program with an emphasis on staff collaboration across all grade levels. The environment of the school encourages effective and timely communication, as well as provides safety for body, mind, and spirit. Finally, the School Improvement Plan at Mark Twain Elementary is developed through direct stakeholder input and reflects the genuine needs of students and staff as it based on student achievement data and researched best practices.
