Several Mark Twain Elementary students toured the Big Bus on Friday, getting acclimated to the retired school bus that now serves as a mobile classroom.

The vehicle will be making weekly stops for those living in Abbey Lane Apartments — home to many Somali families and families of other English Learners at Mark Twain as well as in the district — starting Tuesday, Jan. 31. Mark Twain teachers will work with students in the Big Bus, providing extra academic help afterschool at their doorstep.

Mark Twain English Learners teacher Chelsie Lakeman and Big Bus Executive Director Russ Kinstlinger hosted tours with the students, talking to them about expectations and answering their questions.
