April Hynes was surprised with a quilt signed by all of her Chess Club members.

Every Tuesday morning before school begins at Mark Twain Elementary, some 60 students gather to get a head start on the day by playing chess.  The Chess Club has been in session for two years and has been run by parent volunteer April Hynes.  Other parents have enthusiastically joined in by helping the younger players learn the game and by overseeing tournament play.  On Tuesday morning, April 8, an end-of-the-year breakfast and awards ceremony took place, during which time Hynes was recognized for her outstanding service with the presentation of a homemade chess piece quilt, which was signed by every member of the club.
