Huber Ridge Elementary School fifth grade teacher Brian Shanks was surprised on November 14 when friends and colleagues interrupted a staff meeting to present him with an A+ Award. Colleague Deb Asta read the nomination she submitted, which stated, among other things, that Shanks instills self-confidence in his students, provides them with tools for academic progress, and goes to extraordinary lengths to prepare them for a successful future.
A+ Awards honor outstanding school employees whose actions demonstrate support of the Westerville City School District’s Mission Statement; who are willing to go above and beyond normal expectations in support of students; and who exhibit behavior consistent with one or more of the district’s values. They are awarded twice each school year.
