The Huber Ridge Elementary School Girls on the Run group just culminated their Fall 2016 season by completing the Girls on the Run 5K at the Columbus Commons on Saturday, November 12.  Fifteen girls in grades 3, 4, and 5 began training for the 5K in September.  They worked hard to meet this goal by learning about their individual strengths while setting personal goals and during training after school on Mondays and Wednesdays.  This wonderful program encourages girls to examine their own core values while exploring the importance of being physically and emotionally healthy.

During the season, the Huber Ridge girls also recognized the power they have to change the world in a positive way by creating a community impact project.  They organized and completed a bake sale and raised $341 for a local charity, Eyes Wide Open, benefiting the victims from the recent tragedies in Haiti.  The girls also showed appreciation to support staff by making sweet treats to share these special staff members.  Gratitude was expressed to staff coaches Kathy Bechtol, Natalie Bentz, Liz Comella, Emily Edwards, Amber Korn, and Candy Trott.
