Alpha-Zoo is an innovative program that allows English as a Second Language (ESL) students to gain much needed practice with letter names, letter sounds, and letter writing as they use upper and lower case letters to create artistic animals.  As a culminating project at Huber Ridge Elementary School, student drawings were formatted onto an Alpha-Zoo mural so the images could be screen printed onto t-shirts to create a lasting learning resource for each child.  The children’s images were also scanned into Animoto to create a video slide show for sharing.  A Bette Marschall grant provided funding for the project, which was the vision of ESL teacher Denise Mundy at Huber Ridge and Sue Swihart, the owner of Rising Moon Custom Printing.  Alpha- Zoo was presented at the 2013 Ohio TESOL Conference and will be published in the May/June edition of the Ohio TESOL Journal.
