On Thursday, February 20, the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) brought its newest traveling program, The Incredible Human Machine, to enthusiastic students at Huber Ridge Elementary School. The event was made possible thanks to funding from the Huber Ridge PTA. The innovative, interactive program stimulated the imaginations of students by comparing the inner working of the human body to an engine. Pupils were introduced to the nervous, digestive, respiratory, and circulatory systems, and discovered how proper nutrition and exercise improve their function. Hands-on activity sessions allowed the children to explore major body systems, and learn what it takes to keep their “engines” in tip-top shape. Parents and volunteers who manned the stations helped to make the event a success. This COSI on Wheels program compliments the National Science Education Standards and encourages youngsters to apply the principles of health and nutrition to their daily lives.
