Franklin County Sheriff Zach Scott made a personal appearance to encourage Huber Ridge students to remember what they learned in the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program.

A special graduation ceremony was held at Huber Ridge Elementary School on Monday morning, May 13, when fifth graders received certificates for having completed the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program, taught by Deputy Tony Casper.  Franklin County Sheriff Zach Scott was the keynote speaker, and four students were chosen to read essays they wrote about the importance of staying drug and alcohol free – Allie Balasico, Amanda Felts, Lauren Haines and Madison Morrison.  Parents present were urged to:

  • Establish family rules that make the use of drugs non-negotiable;
  • Educate themselves about drugs so they can talk informatively with their children and answer their questions;
  • Know their children’s friends;
  • Talk with other parents; and
  • Communicate.  “Listening to your child is just as important as talking to them.  Treat their questions and concerns seriously.”
