Hawthorne Elementary art teacher Liz Kengeter-Bash is one of two Central Ohio teachers who was named a 2022 Outstanding Art Teacher by the Ohio Art Education Association (OAEA).

The award recognizes art educators for “their powerfully engaging work and tremendous impact they’ve had on their students.” This year, nearly 2,000 art educators were nominated by their peers; 14 teachers across the state were named an Outstanding Art Teacher.

“I believe that all children are naturally creative and curious,” Bash said in her recognition. “Play, exploration, mistakes and false starts are vital to finding our artistic voice and there should be ample opportunities to experience these in the art room. I want my students to know that their ideas matter and what they think is important. I hope my students leave feeling confident in their ideas and see themselves as creative beings.”

The association recognized honorees at its state conference on Nov. 11.
