Fourth-grade students at Hawthorne Elementary participated in a global art project organized by music group OK Go and the OK Go Sandbox, an online resource for educators that uses OK Go’s music videos as starting points for integrated guided inquiry challenges allowing students to explore various STEAM concepts.

In the first few weeks of the pandemic, OK Go wrote and recorded "All Together Now" from their homes in Los Angeles. The song is about finding hope in dark times and our capacity to care for one another.  This past winter the band invited the world to participate either by submitting artwork or music.

Hawthorne art teacher Liz Kengeter-Bash answered the call, teaching fourth-graders about the animation process before having them color animation cels used in the music video. More than 15,000 musicians, artists, and students from 35 states and 21 countries participated in the project and the band has released 6 different videos. Hawthorne students’ artwork is featured in this music video. To learn more about the project and see the other videos, visit the OkGo Sandbox.
