Many students at Hawthorne Elementary won’t have to wait until the district opens its doors to blended learning to connect with their school family. The teachers and staff will be coming to them.

On Friday, Sept. 18, the Hawthorne team is hosting a back to school parade in two neighborhoods where large populations of their students reside: Strawberry Farms and Minerva Park.

“This is all about bringing our community together and understanding that at Hawthorne, we are truly a family,” Principal Ernest Clinksdale said.

Teachers and staff will march through the neighborhoods behind a banner, distributing candy, beads and other items to families. In keeping with health and safety protocols, they will wear masks and maintain social distancing as they parade through the streets.

The parade at Strawberry Farms runs from 11 a.m. to noon while the one at Minerva Park runs from 1 to 2 p.m.
