Families gathered at Hawthorne Elementary on Thursday evening, April 4, to partake in the school’s annual Cultural Festival, a celebration of diversity within the building.  Attendees experienced the delicious cuisine, beautiful art, fascinating textiles and amazing music of many cultures.  Countries represented were Ghana, Ecuador, Iraq, El Salvador, Bhutan, Somalia, Nepal, Kenya, Tanzania, Greece, Philippines and Nicaragua.  The PTO provided funds to purchase paper products, tri-fold boards and plastic ware.  Fourth grade students kicked off the event by performing in a recorder concert featuring a wide variety of international songs, and pictures from the Galactic Art Club were on display.  ESL teacher Lisa Fields organized the successful activity, with help from many volunteers.
