The Cherrington Elementary community collected more than 250 non-perishable food items and supplies weighing in at 287 pounds for the school's Ohio State vs. Michigan Food Drive for Westerville Area Resource Ministry's (WARM) Food Pantry.

Led by school counselor Marsha Siefker, the school's Student Council organized the promoted the food drive, which ran Nov. 15 to Nov. 22. Student council members helped sort, organize and keep track of which team collected the most donations. Siefker said the project helps students learn valuable life skills, including teamwork, communication, responsibility, time management and goal setting.

"This helps them develop a sense of social awareness," she said. "They learn patience and empathy while getting to see first-hand how they can have a positive impact on their local community."
