Two fifth-graders at Cherrington Elementary were inducted into Ohio’s AAA Safety Patrol Hall of Fame last month.

A.J. Keir and Jocelyn Hartings were among 10 students across the state chosen for the honor, which recognizes their volunteer efforts to help ensure the safety of their classmates as they travel to and from school each day. About 8,000 elementary students from within Ohio Auto Club’s 38 county service area volunteer each year.

Cherrington Principal Andy Heck, Safety Patrol Coordinator Roger Fleegle and AAA Ohio Auto Club Traffic Safety Program Manager Kellie O'Riordan surprised the students with the news during a June 8 ZOOM call.

A.J. and Jocelyn are the 14th and 15th students from Cherrington to be inducted. Students received certificates, medallions and patrol pins. Their names will be placed on a plaque at the AAA office in Worthington. Their families celebrated the announcement with a cookout on June 19.
