Classmates, staff, friends and family members of first grade student McKenzie Jo Wefler gathered together at Cherrington Elementary School on Monday afternoon, May 11, to plant a tree in her memory.  “Kenzie,” who passed away on February 3, was remembered as a vibrant first grader whose “spunk, sass and smile” left a lasting impression with each person she met.  Principal Andrew Heck expressed gratitude to the Westerville City School District and the Cherrington PTA for making it possible to purchase the tree “so that our students and staff may have this opportunity to celebrate her life.”

The tree, located next to the playground, is adorned with a plaque that quotes Winnie the Pooh.  It says, “If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart, I’ll stay forever.
