Because failure is not an option at Annehurst and Cherrington elementary schools in Westerville, these two buildings have been named 2012 Schools of Promise by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE.) Only 163 schools earned this honor on the Local Report Card for the 2011-2012 school year. Michael Sawyers, Acting Superintendent of Public Instruction for ODE, sent letters of commendation to Annehurst Principal Earl Rahm and Cherrington Principal Andrew Heck. He congratulated students, teachers, administrators and school families for earning this prestigious designation.
“Strategies by you and your staff to close the mathematics and reading achievement gap for students who represent a range of socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds are working, and we hope you will share them with other Ohio schools,” wrote Sawyers. “The Ohio Department of Education plans to spotlight your schools as strong examples of what is possible when students, educators, parents and community members come together and believe that all students can succeed.”
Annehurst and Cherrington will receive an official School of Promise banner to display at their buildings.
