The Rotary Club of Westerville, which sponsors a Student of the Month program, recognized recipients at a luncheon at Villa Milano held on Thursday, April 3.  April students are:  Jessica Stroh, Westerville Central High School; Roderick (R.J.) Hutcherson, Westerville North High School; and Rachel Putnam, St. Francis DeSales High School.

The purpose of the program is twofold:  to recognize outstanding students who have distinguished themselves by serving their school and to expose them to the Rotary Club and its ideal of “Service Above Self.”  Students selected join Rotarians for lunch every week for a month, and have the opportunity to interact with members.

Jessica Stroh, a senior at Westerville Central who holds a 4.0 grade point average, enjoys studying all subjects.  She is a cheerleader, a member of the National Honor Society, and a class officer.  She has volunteered for the Mason Woods Foundation and Red Cross blood drives.  She is a four-year scholar athlete.  Stroh plans to study accounting and pre-law at the University of Alabama.

R.J. Hutcherson is a senior at Westerville North.  His favorite subjects are Science and Literature.  He is a basketball player and an office helper, serves on the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council, and participated in the Warrior Way Leadership Summit.  He is also active in Young Life.  Hutcherson earned many basketball awards, including a scholarship to Fairmont State University in West Virginia, where he plans to study Exercise Science and play for the Falcons.

English, Spanish and Calculus are the favorite subjects of study for Rachel Putnam, a senior at DeSales who holds a 4.3 grade point average.  At school, Putnam is a member of the golf team, Yoga Club, Math Club, and the National Honor Society.  She volunteers at the Westerville Area Resource Ministry, the Free Kids Lunch Program, and the St. Paul Sunday Preschool Program.  She has made the Honor Roll ever quarter of her high school career.  She plans to major in Early Childhood Education at the University of Dayton.
