High Schools Participated in OMEA Solo and Ensemble Contest

Westerville North High School hosted the District 15 OMEA Solo and Ensemble Contest on Saturday January 18.  More than 1,100 students from Central Ohio participated in the event. 

The Westerville North music department had many students participate in the event.  The following students and ensembles received the top two ratings that could be earned: 

Choir – The Notables ensemble, and soloists Bryce Craig, Rachel Tamburello, Jacob Funk, Denai Anderson, Elise Vargo and Caroline O’Connor.  Orchestra – String Quartet Matt Gambill, Sarah Bright, Carmen Stone and Morgan Pierce; and soloists Heather Sandvik, Alana Reese, Julia Baumann, Aube Paul, Zane Sills, Elizabeth Mygrant, Noah Langdon, Tiffany Lee, and Matt Gambill.  Band – Soloists Ben Guegold, Carlee McAfee, Brandon Smith, Jacob Ryan, Abby Prohl, and McKenna Guegold.

At Westerville Central, two vocal soloists earned Superior and Excellent ratings – Taylor Cuningham and Gracie Boden.  Five band members walked away with Superior ratings – Margaret Thomas, Mitchell Parton, Marielle Beach, Ian Beach and Danielle Rymers.  

The Saxophone Quartet from Westerville South (Cullen McGuire, Alex Chapman, Adrian Blake, and James Price) received an Ensemble Superior Rating, as did the Woodwind Quintet (Dylan Janney, Nell Saunders, Hartlee Johnston, Anna Aylor, and Margot Marshall-Goetz).  Soloist Superior Ratings were earned by Arianna Bendit, Hartlee Johnston, and Jessica Skoglund (flute); Amanda Miller and Jenna Johnston (tuba); and Jacob Austrino and Noah Hollyfield (trumpet).  Ensemble Excellent Ratings were achieved by Clarinet Trio Tyler Schumacher, Jordan Friese, and James Price; Miscellaneous Woodwind Trio James Hagerman, Miranda Smith, and Anna Aylor; Brass Trio 1 Sam Johnston, Joseph Tickel, and Hannah Roussos; Brass Trio 2, Brendan Christy, Kathleen Hammond, and Jason Smith; and Trombone Quartet Sam Blair, Elijah Silva, Aaron Eversole, and Sam Johnston.  Solo Excellent Ratings were earned by Lauren Seitz and Margot Marshall-Goetz (flute); and Jordan Friese (clarinet).
