The Rotary Club of Westerville, which sponsors a Student of the Month program, recognized recipients at a luncheon at Villa Milano held on April 4.  April students are:  Khushbu Patel, Westerville Central High School; Kent Ford, Westerville North High School; and Kaelyn Buggs, Westerville South High School.

The purpose of the program is twofold:  to recognize outstanding students who have distinguished themselves by serving their school and to expose them to the Rotary Club and its ideal of “Service Above Self.”  Students selected join Rotarians for lunch every week for a month, and have the opportunity to interact with members.
Khushbu Patel, a senior at Westerville Central, enjoys studying Science and Math.  She holds a 4.299 grade point average (GPA).  At school, this National Honor Society co-president participates in Key Club, Invisible Children, Renaissance Club and Interact.  She also played lacrosse for two years and has volunteered in a hospital.  In addition to English, Patel speaks Hindi and Gujarati.  She plans to study Biology and Health Sciences at The Ohio State University.

Kent Ford is a senior at Westerville North.  His current GPA is 4.2 and his favorite subjects are Calculus and Chemistry.  This Scholar Athlete is an award-winning track and cross country competitor, who plays in the orchestra, studies art and is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  He has volunteered at track camps for children during summer months.  Ford signed a Letter of Intent to run track and cross country at Miami University in Ohio, where he plans to study Kinesiology.

Westerville South High School junior Kaelyn Buggs earned a 4.0 GPA and her favorite subjects are Biology, History and Spanish.  She plays five instruments and has participated in the Drama Club, the Debate Club, the Marching Band (as a squad leader in the Flute Section), and the Ohio Music Education Association’s South-Central Regional Orchestra.  She mentors eighth grade students at Heritage Middle School.  Buggs was recently recognized as a Cat with Class.  She hopes to study pre-med and music performance when she goes to college.
