Stephanie Donofe and Becky Haselberger talk with students about creating a positive digital footprint.

The Academic Enrichment Center hosted students from the Best of Both Worlds Program on Thursday, February 21.  Stephanie Donofe, Westerville City Schools Curriculum Coordinator, and Becky Haselberger, Job Training Coordinator of the Best of Both Worlds Transition Program, talked with students about creating a positive digital footprint; about the concept of “Googling Well;” and to use the acronym THINK when considering posting online: Is it True?  Helpful?  Inspiring?  Necessary?  Kind?  They also discussed protecting their identity and online security and how to avoid “phishing schemes” by never giving personal information in an email. Banks and the Internal Revenue Service, they said, will not ask for personal information via email.

The Westerville City Schools Best of Both Worlds Program, in collaboration with Otterbein University, began as a transition program for students with disabilities in 2011. Students in the program have work experiences on Otterbein’s Campus and in Westerville; participate in activities on Otterbein Campus with Otterbein students; and practice daily living skills throughout the local community.  They gain skills for independence while experiencing college life at Otterbein University.
