Rapping Math Teachers at Westerville South Win $15,000 Video Contest
11/9/2012
Compass Learning recently launched its Ideal Learning Environment Video Contest, asking students, teachers and others with an interest in education to submit videos that demonstrate their ideal learning environment. Videos were required to showcase environments that foster creativity, spark curiosity and encourage 21st century skill development and – most importantly – make students want to learn. More than 100 videos were submitted demonstrating novel and thoughtful approaches to learning. The contest has ended and it was just announced that Westerville South High School math teachers Dave Schultz and Tyler Winner submitted the best video. For their creative entry, they will be awarded a $10,000 cash prize to split and $5,000 for their school.
The winning video featured rapping math teachers using a variety of methods to deliver content and engage students. Humor, music and dancing were incorporated throughout the entire two-and-a-half-minute production. Finalists and the winner were selected by a combination of public votes through Compass Learning’s Facebook page, as well as input from a judge’s panel comprised of industry experts and thought leaders.
Adrienne Albregts, Manager of Corporate Marketing and Communications at Compass Learning in Austin, Texas, wrote, “Our goal was to uncover creative ideas about learning environments, and we really didn’t know what to expect. But it’s clear that the students at Westerville South High School in Ohio have one of the coolest learning environments around! When classrooms are engaging, collaborative, and exciting, students feel like they are a part of the learning process.”
