Students and families at Hawthorne Elementary School are rallying around one of their own first graders who is fighting brain cancer. Amaya's Spirit Week helped raise funds for Amaya Street and her family as she bravely battles this disease. The week consisted of fun activities including Crazy Sock Day and Pajama Day, and ended with Crazy Hair Day. If students raised $1,500, Principal Brett Gambill agreed to dye his hair pink, Amaya's favorite color. The very generous Hawthorne community raised more than $2,800. Gambill said, “Our thoughts and well-wishes are with Amaya as she continues to fight!”
