Rotary Club Names September Students of the Month

The Rotary Club of Westerville, which sponsors a Student of the Month program, recognized recipients at a luncheon at Villa Milano held on October 4. September students are: Brandon Rapp, Westerville Central High School; Ian Davis, Westerville North; Nicole Garcia, Westerville South; and Amy Shomo, St. Francis DeSales.

The purpose of the program is twofold: to recognize outstanding students who have distinguished themselves by serving their school and to expose them to the Rotary Club and its ideal of “Service Above Self.” Students selected join Rotarians for lunch every week for a month, and have the opportunity to interact with members.

Senior Brandon Rapp holds a 3.65 grade point average (GPA) at Westerville Central High School. His favorite subjects are History and Science. He is a class officer who serves on the Superintendent’s Advisory Committee. Rapp is actively involved in his church and has earned a varsity letter in soccer. He plans to attend The Ohio State University.

Ian Davis, a senior at Westerville North, holds a 4.0+ GPA. Science and Government are his favorite subjects of study. He participates in Cross Country and Tennis; is a National Honor Society member; and is active in the Recycling Club and Math Lab. He volunteers at the OSU Medical Center at Care Point East and University Hospital East. Davis has earned scholar athlete awards and an AP Scholar award. He plans to study Aeronautical Engineering and Physics.

Nicole Garcia, a senior, earned a 3.4 GPA at Westerville South High School where she enjoys studying English and History. She has played soccer and is involved in junior mentoring. She volunteers at Ourday Preschool and Whittier Elementary. She is a Merit Scholar who was recognized during her school’s Evening of Excellence program. Garcia plans to attend college and eventually work in the field of Early Childhood Education or Sports Marketing.

Amy Shomo, a senior at St. Francis DeSales and a student in the Dual Enrollment Program at Ohio Dominican University, holds an accumulated GPA of 4.067. English, Science and Math are her favorite subjects. She is involved in cross country, the Spanish Club, Math Club, National Honor Society, St. Vincent DePaul Club, Peer Ministry, and Swim Team. She has been a Girl Scout since 2000 and is involved in youth ministry programs at her church. Shomo was a Buckeye Girls State delegate. She plans to study nursing or pursue a medical career.
