Nearly 400 individuals gathered in the Westerville North High School Commons on Wednesday evening, September 27, to celebrate the academic accomplishments of 315 students.  The banquet was hosted by the Westerville North Academic Boosters, who recognized first-year honor roll students with a certificate, second-year honor roll students with an academic varsity letter, and third-year honor roll students with a pin.  Graduated seniors who achieved honor roll for all four years received an honors medallion during commencement last spring.  To achieve honor roll status, pupils must maintain a 3.7 or above grade point average.  The 315 students who were invited were freshmen, sophomores and juniors last year.  One hundred twenty eight honorees attended; the rest were friends and family members.  In all:

  • Thirty-seven Honor Roll students were recognized as PSAT All-Stars; along with
  • Two National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists;
  • Nineteen AP Scholars;
  • Five AP Scholars with Honor; and
  • Seven AP Scholars with Distinction.

Aside from standard placement test acknowledgement, teachers at North use the opportunity to recognize individual accomplishments in the classroom.  More than 1,000 teacher awards were also bestowed on the 315 honor roll students.

School board members were present to extend their congratulations, along with district administrators, school administrators and guidance counselors.  Academic Boosters President Nancy McFarland and Westerville North Principal Kurt Yancey greeted attendees.  Keynote speaker was Westerville North graduate Joe Meyer, owner of Meyer Media, LLC.  He encouraged the honorees to push boundaries, be curious, be involved, and give back.
